Kitchen Island Pendant Lighting
For a smaller area, two medium sized pendants should be enough, but for a larger island three nay be. needed, or you can choose a very large island pendant. Kitchen Island Pendants should be hung 12 to 20 inches below a ceiling that is 8 feet. Allow 3 additional inches for each additional foot. If a ceiling 9 feet the light should hang 15 to 23 inches below. There should be a 30 to 36-inch clearance above the counter-top.
Pendant Lamps for the Dining Table
For the dining table hang your pendant lamps high enough to give a view while sitting at a dining table — around 28 to 32 inches above the table. They could be hung higher or lower depending on personal preference, the height of your ceilings or the size of the lamp. A large rectangle table looks good with two smaller pendant lights, and it will provide balanced light.
In the dining room, pendants are hung in groups of three, five, or even seven, if they are small. Or hang two large pendants over a large table. How many you actually need depends on the size of your table.
A Pendant in the Bedroom
Pendant lights in the bedroom can take the place of bedside table lamps with or without the table. Use one on each side or, if small, use two or three. You can hang a pendant around 48 inches from the top of the bedside table. For a more Contemporary look hang it about 24 inches above the table. But as with a table lamp, it’s easiest to read in bed when the bottom of the lamp is about eye level.
