Sitting on a buffet table that is 36” tall, a buffet lamp should be about 28” (top of finial) or less in height. PoshLamps.com offers tall and slender candlestick lamps as well as other lamps that are sized for narrow surfaces such a bedroom dresser.
BEAUTIFUL AND TALL
Buffet table lamps are not only stylish and provides added beauty to your decor but are very versatile and can be utilized in many different areas of your home. Buffet lamps are both functional and decorative sources of light.
Most areas of your home will benefit from multiple sources of light.. Sometimes lighting is necessary for your general lighting needs, sometimes for tasks such as reading, and many times to create a romantic mood. There are various types of lighting such as buffet lamps, bedside lamps, dresser lamps, desk lamps, floor lamps, sconces, and chandeliers. Below are tips for choosing various types of lamps.
CONSOLE TO CANDLESTICK
Buffet lamps also referred as console lamps, or candlestick lamps are lamps that are taller in stature. Usually standing 32 to 36 inches in height, measuring up from the base to the top of the shade, or finial. Buffet lamps come with a more narrow base, often looking like a thin candlestick, with a smaller shade.
MADE IN THE SHADE
Buffet lamp shades usually have a base dimension around 12 inches in circumference or less. Buffet lamps generally house a 75-watt bulb or less, depending on the width of the shade. A pair of buffet lamps will light up about the same amount of area as one 150-watt bulb in a table lamp.
SMALL IS NOT LESS
Smaller buffet lamps stand 24 to 30 inches tall which are sometimes referred to as candlestick lamps due to their candlestick shape. The shorter style will takes a 60-watt bulb. Smaller Candlestick lamps standing less than 24 inches tall should be considered as an accent lamp.
IT ALL COMES TOGETHER
Buffet lamps are usually used on a buffet table, a chest, on a dresser, or pedestal, console table, a credenza, or on a sofa table, etc. When decorating with buffet lamps, keep the height of the lamp and the table surface it sits on to around the 58 to 64 inches range. This is important when you are using them in a room where there are different height table and floor lamps. The reasoning is, you want the eyes to move horizontally throughout the room from the lamps top of the shade to the other lamps without gazing up or down.
If you use a buffet lamp in your dining room, or sitting on a console table, where there are no other light fixtures like table lamps or floor lamps to compare them for height, it’s best for them to be a little taller. Just be sure they are not too tall in height that you can see the bottom of the shade or you can see the exposed light bulb.
